Interior painting

Interior Painting

Residential Interior Painting

When it comes to the walls inside your home, you need to take extra care in the painting process to ensure the walls are prepped properly, cleaned, and that they are evenly coated. Here are some steps to take when painting the interior of your home.

  • Picking The Right Paint Color: Probably the hardest part of painting your home might just be picking the actual color itself. There are a ton of guides out there on how to choose a paint color, but overall while color is still nice to have, it’s best to pick more neutral tones of colors and stay away from too saturated or too bright colors.
  • Set Up The Work Area: Once you have your color picked you will need to have the right tools and materials. You don’t want dust or paint to get on your floors and make a mess, so when we work we make sure to remove any furniture if needed, and cover the floors with a cloth tarp and cover it with plastic sheets or taped cardboard paper.
  • Prep Your Walls For Paint: You don’t want dust or dirt on the walls when you paint otherwise it will stay in the paint and look gritty on the walls. We make sure to smooth out and rough edges with sandpaper and wipe the walls down with a wet cloth. When it’s dried and ready we can start painting!
  • Begin To Paint: Our skilled employees will begin taping off all edges and trim and start cutting the edges with a brush. Then we come in with the rollers or sprayers and cover the walls in a very systematic motion to ensure even coating and spread. Our employees know the right amount of pressure to add evenly and make a smooth painted surface. Many times a second coat is needed to ensure full and even coverage. If your walls need a couple coats of primer, we start with that first and then add the actual paint color.
  • Cleaning Up: Once the job is done our crew will touch up any spots that need fixing, pick up all our gear, sweep, vacuum, and wipe everything down so it looks like we were never even there. We take extra care to make sure we leave no scuffs, marks, or break anything on our way out.

All The Rooms We Can Paint

  • Bedroom Painting: This is the room you will spend most of your time in your home. Why not make it nice to look at?
  • Family Room Painting: This is where all the action happens – The movie nights, dinners, games, relaxing. It’s important to choose colors that will accent well with the current furnishings.
  • Dining Room Painting: We can make your dining room into something cozy, comfortable, and the centerpiece of your home.
  • Kitchen Painting: A new color in your kitchen can revitalize its look and feel, especially when you paint your kitchen cabinets as well. Together, just painting those two things can raise the value of your home significantly.
  • Hallway Painting: The hallways are a crucial transition space for your home. You have to choose the right color to bring together all the other elements of your home.
  • Bathroom Painting: They’re such small spaces, they are relatively affordable to paint and breathe new life into your bathroom.

Exterior painting

Exterior Painting

Exterior Painting Contractors

There are any number of reasons to paint the outside of your home whether it be to raise the value of the home before selling or just looking to make a change. It is by far the most effective way to stand out in the neighborhood improve the look of your home. It’s not an easy undertaking by any means, so unless you are an experienced painter you will undoubtably run into trouble along the way.

We take care of all the details for you. We have some of the best painters in the business to make sure these difficult jobs are handled with the utmost care and quality. Here are just some of the things we do to ensure your home is taken care of and done right:

  • Washing The Exterior: Every home needs to be pressure washed before painting. There’s dirt, grime, mold, and all kinds of particulates that have accumulated on the outside of your home. those all need to be washed off starting from the top of the house to the bottom so all the runoff runs down the walls as we move down from the top. Much like painting the interior of your home, we need the walls to be clean so the paint sticks evenly with no bumps or grit.
  • Scrape Off Loose Paint: We lay down drop cloths and begin scraping off any bubbled paint or chipped paint and then sand them down evenly. If there’s chipped paint of bubbles under the painted area that will show through the new layer and disturb it over time, leading to it needing to be removed later and repainted.
  • Sanding The Surface: This is a very important step as it creates a smooth and even surface for the paint to adhere to and dry evenly. It’s another painstaking process, but it’s details like this that make or break a paint job.
  • Remaining Patch Jobs: After we have pressure washed, scraped, and sanded the area we will also check for any minor repairs that need tending before we paint. Again, this is another detail process that makes for a much better result when you finish painting.
  • Primer The Surface: This is the first step in any home painting project. It creates a blank canvas for the new color to shine on. A blank canvas yields the best color results.
  • Caulking The Gaps: Yet another painstaking detail that must be done to complete the finished look. We seal all crack, corners, and small gaps with caulk to not only create a nice finished look, but to also prevent moisture from entering where it doesn’t belong.
  • Now We Paint!: After all of those detailed steps have been done, we can finally start painting the house! A minimum of two coats will be done to ensure even coating of paint has been applied.

Staining

Deck, Fence, & Gate Staining

One of the best ways to prolong the life of your wooden deck or fence is to stain it. It can be done to new and old fences and vastly improve the lok and feel of your home. Before you start staining though, there are a few steps that are needed before you begin. Here’s how we like to do things:

  • Pick The best Days To Work: Before any work begins, we need to keep an eye on the weekly weather and make sure the temperature will be between 50 and 80 degrees, low to moderate humidity, and won’t be raining or too windy. Bad weather can impact the drying process, so for best results we have to wait for the right conditions.
  • Prep Work to Begin Staining/Painting: If there is already stain or paint that is on the fence, you’ll need to apply wood stain or wood finish stripper to the wood planks following the products instructions for application. Then you’ll want to loosen the old varnish with a stiff-bristle brush and smooth out any wood fibers that are sticking out.
  • Clean The Fence: We use a low powered pressure washer to clean away any dirt or remaining varnish on the fence. You don’t want to use a high powered nozzle, this will damage the wood. We need just enough pressure to clean with wood without tearing it to shreds.
  • Repair Any Damage: Some wood planks may have cracks, chips, holes, or dents in them that might not look so great when stained. So we like to patch up any blemishes that might be in the wood, and if it’s too damaged we will just replace the whole plank for a new one. It’s all about the details that make a good staining look flawless.
  • Prep The Area: Can’t get paint or stain on all your nice plants! When we work, we cover nearby plants and objects to protect them from extra spray or paint drips.
  • Apply Stain: Now we can FINALLY start applying the stain. If we are using oil-based wood stain it’s best to use a natural bristle brush as this helps the stain be absorbed evenly in the wood. If the wood planks are horizontal, you’ll want to paint from left to right, if it’s vertical then you brush from top to bottom.
Using a sprayer is the fastest way to paint or stain a fence, so when you do we recommend applying it in 2-3 foot overlapping sections while standing at least 4 feet from the fence.
  • Apply Sealer: After the paint or stain has been dried, if you want the best results for the longevity of your fence you need to apply a good sealer to your fence. Usually all that is needed is a single coating of clear weatherproof sealant to keep the elements from penetrating the wood.

Painting Metal Fences

  • When painting a metal or iron fence, make sure you use a durable metal primer before you paint. The metal primer (also called oxide primer) is made specifically for metal’s slick surface by creating a rough layer on top for the new paint to adhere to. The difference between an oxide primer and a regular can of primer is regular primer doesn’t have the proper chemicals that prevent rust over time.

Don’t forget to add the sealer once you have painted it. Make sure it is sealer made specifically for metal surfaces and weatherproof to resist the forces of nature berating your fence throughout the year.

Painting Vinyl Fences

  • When painting vinyl fencing it’s pretty much the same steps of prepping, priming, and application. Just make sure the paint and primer that’s being used is specifically designed for vinyl fences.

Fence Staining Contractors You Can Trust

  • As you can see from reading this page, painting and staining fences can be quite a tricky undertaking. If you want to do it yourself make sure you have researched everything involved. But if you want to hire a professional to take care of it for you make sure they are licensed, check references, and look at their previous work if you can.

Drywall repairs

Drywall Repair

Fixing Knicks, dings, dents, and holes in your drywall

Life happens! Sometimes a door opens too wide and puts a dent in the drywall, or your kid throws a rock into the dry wall, or there’s a bad patch job that sticks out from when you moved in. No matter what happened, Color Concepts Painting can make it look like there was never any damage to

begin with. We’ve seen it all and patched it all. Here’s a few things we can fix and how we fix it:

  • Drywall Dings & Dents: If there’s a dent or ding in your drywall, all we need to do is scrape away any loose debris and spackle over the dent with drywall putty/spackle. Then we even it out with a putty knife until it is smooth and flush. Then all it takes is a sanding with a fine grit paper and determine what the texture around it is made of and retexture evenly. Texturing is a very easy step to get wrong. If the texture compound is sprayed unevenly or too much in one area it will stand out and be an eye sore. Experienced contractors know exactly how much to use and where, it comes with practice.
  • Door Handle Holes: Requires a wire mesh to be place over the hole. Then, using lightweight joint compound, stick it over the mesh thoroughly in a crisscross pattern. Feathering the edges blends the spackle with the wall. Let dry and if necessary add another layer of compound. Once you sand it down until the patched area looks flush with the rest of the wall all you have to do is add the texture compound in the same concentration as the rest of the wall, then paint. If done properly you will not even know there was a dent to begin with.
  • Holes 6 Inches or Bigger: Drywall holes 6-8 inches wide are a lot more intensive to fix and requires more than just spackling, sanding, and texturing like the smaller holes. One of the simplest ways to deal with this is to cut out the hole into a square, then measure that square and cut out a piece of drywall that is the exact dimensions of that square hole and secure wooden backing strips to the back of it to give it more strength and support behind it. Secure it with screws the tape it off at the seams and use joint compound to cover the seams in the same way as you would when installing new drywall sheets on a wall. Then you sand, texture, and paint.
